Our gite, is located on the edge of the peaceful hamlet of Chantegros, 15 km east of the renaissance town of Fontenay le Comte. The cottage is adjacent to our home, so we are nearby to ensure you have all you need for a relaxing holiday. It has a private shady garden, as well as use of our large front garden with plenty of space for sitting out, or childrens' games. Ideal for children, we have no passing traffic, with just a small lane to the rear of the property, and fields all around.

The area is also perfect for cycling and walking, with gently undulating landscape, and quiet lanes and villages all around. There is an open air swimming pool 2km away, and a inland beach about 6km away on the banks of the Vend?e river, complete with flume.

The Atlantic coast with its beautiful sandy beaches and the old port of La Rochelle are less than an hour away. The forest of Mervent Vouvant is nearby, (10 mins drive) as are the tranquil waterways of the Venise Verte (15 mins). Futuroscope and Puy de Fou theme parks are about an hour away, and the old towns of Parthenay, with its medieval quarter, and Niort, a characterful market town, are, respectively, 40km and 22km distant.

The chateaux, vineyards and old towns of Saumur, Chinon, Tours, Cognac, Confolens, Angouleme, Poitiers and many others are within easy reach of a day out.

Local facilities including supermarkets, boulangerie/patisseie and chemist are available at St Hilaire des Loges, 3km, and Coulonges sur l'Autize, 2km, both pleasant walks.

For days or evenings in there is a good supply of books, games, music cassettes and cds, and in addition to satellite television, we have a dvd player, and selection of dvds available.
