A dirty bathroom - toilet bowl. An extremely dirty towel lying on the counter in the kitchen area. Four pillows on one of the beds only one pillow had a pillow cover on it. The toilet backed up the day after we arrived. The bathroom area and front hall way flodded within minutes. I called the owner when this happened. He came over but was less than apologetic. When we came back that evening we had no running water - no shower or toilet facility and no running water in the kitchen. I phoned him at once (6.30pm)on his mobile, it was switched off. I left a message saying the situation was urgent. I phoned his land line which was also on answer. I left a message on that. I phoned both of his phones at 9.30 - 10.00pm and left further messages. No response. By 11.00am the following morning - we were still without water and were unable to even brush our teeth - and explained that the situation was unacceptable and that each time I phoned him the call went via Europe and were 'costing me a fortune'. Sometime around 11.30am he appeared and turned on the water. He had turned it off the previous day and had forgotten. I would not return to this property in the future. Charming scenery alone is not enough. Even an artist's studio should achieve a certain level of hygene. i wasa shocked to find this in America and in the 21 century.

Owner Comments: Thank you for the opportunity to respond, I only wish I was aware of the dissatisfaction while Ms. McGrath was here these issues were all within her first few days in NY. The satisfaction of my guests is of the utmost importance to me . I would have bent over backwards to please her, however her reference to a certain level of hygiene is unfair.

An excellent location, a five minute walk to the subway station with a direct route to Manhattan. The house is placed over a beautiful view of the water, and is a peaceful reflection of the busy days spent in New York city.

This is a very unusual property, with a lot of character and stunning views across the bay. The owner lives locally and was extremely helpful. The studio provided an affordable base for our family of 5 to enjoy a great holiday in New York. It is very close to a subway station with regular, cheap trains to Manhattan. We would rate the property 'excellent' on value for money, but as you can see from the pictures on the website it is not a luxury apartment.
