Emilia Romagna is situated north of Apulia and south of the Veneto. The miles and miles of sandy beaches are a summertime Mecca for northern Europeans. Just about any outdoor activity you can think of is readily available and there are numerous night clubs and discotheques. The capital city is Bologna and Parma, Modena, Reggio Emilia and Urbino should also be on every visitor's itinerary.

In the north huge fishing nets and tiny fishermen's huts dot the broad silent wetlands of the Po River Delta. To the south and west are the rich farmlands of Emilia Romagna, once the breadbasket of the Roman Empire.
The local people will charm you with their fun-loving personalities and their love of music, dance and food.
Until the nineteenth century, Emilia and Romagna were separate Papal states which were unified in 1946. Parts of both belonged for centuries to Constantinople, which left its Byzantine mark, notably on the magnificent basilicas of Ravenna.
Farther south, is the region of the Marches where there are fewer tourists, less crowded restaurants and much lighter traffic. The flatlands give way to vast green valleys ringed by snowy ridges, the slopes and summits of which are dotted with hill towns and castles.

There are airports at Forli, Palma and Bologna as well as Pisa and Florence. The A1 runs between Milan, Florence and Bologna.
