ArezzoArezzo is the capital city of the easternmost province of Tuscany a beautiful area of rolling hills and is situated 77 km south of Florence, and 64 km east of Siena.
Cortona, an ancient Etruscan walled city, is situated in the province on a hillside not far from Lake Trasimino.
ArezzoWinter in Tuscany can be cold and wet but spring always seems to come quickly. March is azalea and camelia time, whilst April and May are sometimes very wet months.
ArezzoTuscany's airports are Pisa's Galileo Galilei and Florence's Amerigo Vespucci. Trains run frequently from a stones through from the Galileo Galilei airport, and it's about an hour's ride to Florence. From Amerigo Vespucci airport it's a 20-minute bus ride from the centre of Florence.
ArezzoArezzo has an antique market – 1st Sunday of every month. Arezzo hosts an annual medieval festival called the Joust of the Saracens where knights on horseback representing different areas of the town charge at a wooden target attached to a carving of a Saracen king and score points according to accuracy. The whole town gets dressed up in medieval costume and enthusiastically cheers on the competitors. Arezzo is also home to an annual popular music and culture festival, each July, called Arezzo Wave. Tuscan food is simple and abundant with local produce, mellow cheeses and grilled meats. Tuscans are known for their appreciation of beans as seen in the staple of the Tuscan table: white beans cooked with sage and olive oil. Plus this is the home of Chianti wine.
