Barcelona has a typical Mediterranean climate: it's hot in summer and cool but rarely cold in winter. Summers are long and (usually) dry, with beach-going heat arriving in late May and staying until October. Spring is notoriously unpredictable; you may be sunbathing one day and heading off to snow ski the next. This is the rainiest season, but you'll rarely have more than a day or two of wet weather.

Barcelona's monthly average temperatures are: January: 9?C February: 10?C March: 12?C April: 14?C May: 17?C June: 21?C July: 24?C August: 24?C September: 22?C October: 18?C November: 13?C December: 10?C

Barcelona's El Prat international airport is a busy place, and flights from the UK (a two-hour trip) come and go constantly. To get into the centre of Barcelona from the airport, you can catch one of the Renfe trains, which run twice an hour and take 20 minutes to get to the semi-central Sants train station. You can also hop on the Aerobus, a big blue bus that stops outside the terminals every 15 minutes and takes you straight to Barcelona's ultra-central Pla?a Catalunya. If you choose to take a taxi, expect to pay ?15-?20 for a ride to central Barcelona.

In Barcelona, getting around is a breeze. The extensive metro system is safe and easy to use, and the buses (a bit more complicated to figure out, but useful just the same) criss-cross every nook and cranny of the city. Walking is an excellent option too, as Barcelona is a great city for strolling and most major sites are in a radius of just a few kilometres.
