Klaus BentzenZealand is the largest island of Denmark. Many fjords, spits and bays are features of the coasts. Zealand is connected to Funen by the Great Belt Bridge and to Sweden by the Oresund Bridge. Zealand is bounded in the north by the Kattegat and in the south by the Baltic. In the northeast of Zealand the ?resund, which separates the east coast of the island from the southwest coast of Sweden, is very narrow. In the south the Storstrom and Far? bridges connect Zealand with the island of Falster.

Fertile moraine deposits, with tunnel valleys and "osers" (banks of sand or pebbles formed by meltwater during the Ice Age) characterize the landscape. While in the south agriculture plays a major role, the north of the island is extensively industrialized. The capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, is partly located on the eastern shore of Zealand and partly on Amager. Other cities on the island include Roskilde and Elsinore.
Klaus BentzenZealand enjoys a consistently mild climate for most of the year, with average temperatures usually in the range of 9?C (48?F) to 15?C (59?F). Rainfall is spread evenly throughout the year.
