The province of Ragusa is off the beaten track and its beaches are some of the cleanest and least crowded found in Sicily. It has a capital city of the same name about an hour's drive from Syracuse, the nearest large settlement. The province is peaceful and more authentically Sicilian than many of the island's other provinces.
Ragusa town is really two towns, Ragusa Ibla which was the ancient city and Ragusa Superiore the main part of the city built in the early 1700s.
