Villas and apartments in Messina: Messina is the third largest city on the island of Sicily, Italy and the capital of the province of Messina located close to the North-East corner of Sicily.

On December 28, 1908, Europe's most powerful earthquake shook southern Italy in the straits of Messina, Sicily. Many buildings in the city such as the Duomo of Messina have subsequently had to be completely restored

There are plans to bridge the 3km wide Strait of Messina, which divides the island of Sicily from Calabria in southern. This project if completed would be the longest suspension bridge ever built.

There are at least hourly ferries to and from mainland Italy. Messina is part of the main Italian train network with regular trains from Rome and Naples. The nearest airport is Catania.

Fish and rice are used extensively in local dishes with ghiotta (fish soup), prepared with swordfish, rockfish, tomatoes, onions, celery, capers, olives and olive oil, the most famous dish. Events celebrated in Messina are "La Varetta" in June which honors the "Madonna della Lettera" and during Ferragosto in August is the "Parade of the Giants" which commemorates the legend of the city's founders Mata and Grifone.
