A favourite holiday destination for many north europeans, Majorca is an island with developed, lively coastal resorts, a rural interior and the historic regional capital city of Palma. Despite several decades as a major tourist destination the island still manages to retain much of its cultural identity and as such has something to offer everyone.
Majorca enjoys a pleasant year-round climate with a long, hot summer. Spring can be unpredictable and storms are not uncommon.
Majorca has one international airport at Palma, from which point it is possible to drive to most points on the island within a couple of hours. Ferries from the Spanish mainland and other Balearic islands also arrive and leave from Palma.
With a history that is influenced by the greeks, moors and romans, the historic trading port of Palma is the cultural as well as administrative capital of the island and there is much to do and see. The cathedral, built between 1230 and 1600 is one of many things to see in the winding streets of the old quarter, which by night is buzzing with activity. Other areas of interest on the island include the incredible Coves del Drac (caves of the dragon) and the pleasant towns of Valldemossa, Deia, Soller and Alcudia. Most coastal resorts cater to the watersports enthusiast, with windsurfing, sailing and waterskiing popular favourites.`
