Towns on the coasts of Northern Malta have been developed relatively recently and offer many tourist services and facilities. Principle resorts are Bugibba and Mellieha, which is well located for Golden Sands Bay, the largest sandy beach on the island. Bugibba, one of the most popular resorts on the island, offers inexpensive accommodation with a vibrant, active atmosphere. Mellieha, whilst still popular with tourists, has a quieter, more peaceful feel to it

Malta has a typical Mediterranean climate, with long, hot summers and short, mild and wet winters. Three quarters of the island's annual rainfall is typically recorded between october and March. Winds are strong and frequent.

Malta International Airport is the only airport on the island. Metered taxis from the airport to all areas of the island are available.

While the usual activities associated with an island - such as sailing, windsurfing and diving - are readily available, walking and cycling are a good way to explore the island and access areas that are otherwise inaccessible.
