The Haute Savoie in the French Alps, home to Europe's highest peak Mont Blanc, contain a wide range of world renowned tourist resorts. Skiers of all abilities are catered to, from the wide pistes of Morzine, to the extreme off piste slopes of Chamonix, there is something for everybody. The mountains are transformed in the summer, with the clear air, glistening glacial rivers and rustic chalets making it a perfect place to get away from it all.
The winter season runs primarily from December to May, and the summer from June to October. Mountain weather can be highly unpredictable and it is best to obtain short term forecasts. Resorts often all but close between seasons.
The area is served primarily by Geneva airport in Switzerland (1 hour from Chamonix). Other airports in the area are Lyon and Chamberry. There are good bus and rail services to the area.
The Haute Savoie in the French Alps are perfect for anyone who loves to be outdoors. In winter all the normal winter sports are available (downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, sledging etc) plus a few unconventional means of getting from top to bottom! In the summer the mountains are extremely popular with walkers, climbers, mountain bikers and golfers. Year round activities include paragliding.
