Gaudi Staircase in Parc GuellBarcelona apartments in Gracia: With its cheerful sunny plazas, fantastic tapas bars and alternative entertainment scene, Gracia is the free spirit of Barcelona. Apartments here are ideal for those who long to be in the thick of city life while staying off the beaten tourist track. Still, it is only a short Metro ride to the centre and main sights of Barcelona. All our Barcelona apartments are available for short term rental.
An independent town until 1897, Gracia still hasn't quite gotten itself used to the idea of forming part of Barcelona. Even now, the artsy district has a laid-back, bohemian feel that's unlike any other area of the city. Its layout (narrow, maze-like streets studded with open plazas) is also different from other areas of Barcelona. An apartment here will put you in the midst of all that's unique about Gracia.
The major cultural sight in Gracia is the whimsical Parc Guell, a park designed by Antoni Gaudi originally intended to be a community with homes, a church and a school. The project flopped, but thanks to the failure you can enjoy the most unique outdoor space in Barcelona here near your apartment.
Back in central Gracia, the main attraction is the atmosphere itself. Stroll streets like Gran de Gracia, Verdi and Torrent de l'Olla for original shopping options and dozens of tiny bars and restaurants. Gracia has more open squares than just about any other part of the city, and languishing in them is a joy. Be sure to pass by the Plaza del Sol, Plaza Rius i Taulet and the Plaza del Diamant.
Gracia's summer festival is the highlight of the neighbourhood's cultural calendar. If you're here during the festival (in August), expect a bit of extra noise in your apartment; Barcelona street parties are not known for being tame or for ending early! The highlight of Gracia's festival is the street competition. Locals go to elaborate lengths to decorate their streets, pulling out all the stops to convert city blocks into underwater wonderlands, huge prison cells, movie scenes? anything goes.
The rest of the year, Gracia offers plenty of diversion as well. Several original-language cinemas, most showing alternative films, are here, as are most of the alternative theatres in Barcelona. With an apartment in Gracia, you're assured great entertainment.
